Technicians play a vital role at Leeds, with more than 400 colleagues supporting research, teaching and innovation across all our faculties. As part of our University strategy, we are committed to attracting, retaining and developing the very best people and teams.

As a Science Council Employer Champion and a signatory to the Technician Commitment, we actively support technicians through professional development, recognition and career progression. Key areas of our approach include:

• Technicians Network – A University-wide network providing regular activities, communication and community-building opportunities.
• Professional registration – There are several routes available to colleagues seeking registration routes that recognise technical expertise and continuous professional development.
• Technician skills and research – Access to role-specific and specialist training, including opportunities through the Yorkshire Technicians Exchange Partnership, Higher Education and Technician’s Educational Development (HEaTED) and other sector schemes.
• Leadership and career development – A wide range of leadership and career development programmes tailored to different career stages.
• Other forms of development – Additional ways to develop, such as work experience, research and self-study, volunteering and participation in committees or working groups.
