Date

Applications are now open for our University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2022.  The awards celebrate excellent practice in student education and offer wide recognition of outstanding work, as well as a cash prize to support professional development and scholarship.

Applications are open to any colleague at Leeds involved in teaching or supporting the student learning experience and includes staff from faculties and professional services.

With three categories, the scheme is relevant to colleagues at different career stages and with opportunities to be recognised for individual or team-based activities. Up to three winners in each of the categories below will also receive an award certificate together with an invitation to a celebratory event. This is the second year the awards have run after our first set of winners were recognised in July 2021.

  • Early Career University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with up to five years’ experience of teaching or supporting learning in higher education (each winner receives £2,000)
  • Sustained Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with more than five years’ experience (each winner receives £2,000)
  • Collaborative Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for teams (each team receives £500 per contributor up to a maximum of £4,000).

The winners of the Sustained Excellence and Collaborative categories will be provided with support and guidance to submit for the National Teaching Fellowship scheme and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence scheme.

 Great opportunity

Professor Jeff Grabill, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, said: “Research universities like the University of Leeds are unique in their ability to provide transformative learning experiences that are also research-led and therefore engage students in the collaborative work of understanding our world.

“Our staff who teach and support learning are at the heart of this endeavour, working in partnership with our students to provide an inspiring, challenging and supportive environment that enables them to achieve their ambitions.

“The University of Leeds Teaching Awards recognise individual and collaborative excellence in student education, and this year they provide a great opportunity to recognise the good work and innovation which have sustained high quality learning and teaching through the pandemic. Identifying excellent work happening around us and taking the time to recognise and reward our colleagues is an important, collegial and fun way to build community. I look forward to seeing applications from colleagues across the institution.”
