Special ceremony recognises excellence in education

It’s been an honour and privilege to present the awards at this year’s celebration. It’s been lovely to hear about the care, generosity and kindness that goes into teaching.
Winners of the University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2023 were recognised during a special celebration held on campus to honour excellence in student education at Leeds.
The winners, announced in July, each received a grant to support professional development or scholarship. They were also presented with a certificate of recognition by Professor Alice O’Grady, Dean: Student Education (Quality and Standards), during the event hosted by Organisational Development and Professional Learning (OD&PL) at University House on 13 September.
Both individual and collaborative innovation and contribution were recognised in this year’s awards, with an impressive range of applications received from across the University.
The event provided an opportunity to highlight the work of colleagues who’ve achieved professional recognition in 2022/23. This includes graduates from the University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) and colleagues who’ve achieved fellowship from Advance HE. Among them was Dan Trowsdale, who gained a National Teaching Fellowship last month.
Professor O’Grady said:
I’d like to thank everyone who attended the celebration event and all our colleagues who helped to make it such a fantastic occasion. It was wonderful to be able to congratulate the winners of the University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2023 and to recognise the work of all the others who’ve achieved so much this year. It was inspiring to hear about everyone’s achievements and the extraordinary contributions they’ve made to student education at Leeds and beyond. It was a real joy. Thank you.
The awards will open for applications later this year. Information will be updated on the awards webpage and shared via eNews.
