Applications open for the University of Leeds Teaching Awards 2023

Applications are now open for the third instalment of the University of Leeds Teaching Awards, celebrating excellent practice in student education.

The awards are open to all colleagues involved in teaching or supporting the student learning experience and includes staff from faculties and professional services.

Professor Jeff Grabill, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, said: “Research universities like Leeds are unique in their ability to provide transformative learning experiences that are also research-led and therefore engage students in the collaborative work of understanding our world.

“Our colleagues who teach and support learning are at the heart of this endeavour, working in partnership with our students to provide an inspiring, challenging and supportive environment that enables them to achieve their ambitions.

“The University of Leeds Teaching Awards recognise individual and collaborative excellence in student education, and this year they provide a great opportunity to recognise the good work and innovation that is contributing to achieving our Curriculum Redefined ambitions.

“Identifying excellent work happening around us and taking the time to recognise and reward our colleagues is an important, collegial and fun way to build community. I look forward to seeing applications from colleagues across the institution.”

Winners in each of the following categories will receive a grant, an award certificate and an invitation to a celebratory event on campus:

Early Career University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with up to five years’ experience of teaching or supporting learning in higher education (up to three winners, each receiving a £2,000 grant)

Sustained Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for colleagues with more than five years’ experience (up to three winners, each receiving a £2,000 grant)

Early-Stage Collaborative Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for teams in newly established collaborations of up to three years (up to two winning teams, each receiving £500 per contributor, up to a maximum of £4,000)

Sustained Collaborative Excellence University of Leeds Teaching Award – for teams in more established collaborations of more than three years (up to two winning teams, each team receiving a £500 grant per contributor, up to a maximum of £4,000)

Winners of the ‘Sustained Excellence’ and ‘Sustained Collaborative Excellence’ categories will also have access to guidance and support provided for the National Teaching Fellow and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence schemes.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 24 March. Colleagues can register for an online briefing session, taking place from 12 noon to 12.50pm on Thursday 9 February, to find out more about the awards.
